Fat Thursday is a holiday that many people look forward to. Very often, this is a day when you can eat sweets or your favorite fatty foods without any qualms. In 2025, Fat Thursday falls on February 27.
Fat Thursday is always celebrated on the last Thursday before Lent. This special day comes from paganism. Fat day the passing of winter was celebratedand thus welcoming spring. Back then, people ate the fattest foods, especially meat and donuts made of bread dough stuffed with bacon.
The tradition of eating sweet donuts appeared in Poland around the 16th century. Inside they had a small nut or almond hidden, and whoever found it was supposed to have good luck, prosperity and success.
These donuts were fried in lardso although they were sweet, they were also fatty. However, now we know that they are donuts They don’t have to be fatty to be tasty. Despite the lack of deep frying, they are still part of the tradition of Fat Thursday. They are healthier for us, and at the same time they do not have a greasy aftertaste that bothers many people.
The most classic filling for donuts is marmalade or rosehip jam. However, there is no problem in choosing any other marmalade in its place. They work great cherry and plum jam. These will be good for fans of sweeter flavors with strawberry or apricot flavor.
Moreover, the trends in filling donuts have changed in recent years. Very often, sweet cake is filled with various types of creams. It will fit in well chocolate cream or becoming more and more popular pistachio cream. Soft donuts can also be stuffed creams with additives mascarpone or pudding.

They always follow this recipe soft, delicate, fluffy like traditional donuts. They are just perfect, and that’s what they have much less caloriesare easier on the liver and do not leave a greasy aftertaste. Delicious!
Ingredients:
- 250 g of wheat flour,
- 120 ml of warm milk,
- 2 yolks,
- 20 g sugar,
- 15 g fresh yeast,
- 25 g of butter,

Warm mix milk with 1 teaspoon of sugar, 1 tablespoon of flour and yeast and set aside for 10 minutes to a warm place. After this time, the grout should start working and will foam. Then we combine them with the remaining ingredients: flour, yolks, sugar, butter and a pinch of salt. Knead the dough for 5 minutes until it reaches a smooth, uniform consistency. Transfer the prepared mass to a bowl, cover it with a cotton cloth and set aside for 1 hour to a warm place.
Place the risen dough on a board sprinkled with flour. Roll them out to a thickness of 2 cm. Cut out circles from the dough using a glass with a diameter of approx. 6 cm. Place the cut out pieces of dough on a baking tray lined with paper, cover with a cotton cloth and repeat. set aside to rise for 30 minutes.
Melt the clarified butter. Line the basket of an air fryer with baking paper air fryer heat to 180 degrees Celsius. Brush each donut on both sides with melted butter. Place the donuts in the basket so that they do not touch each other. Fry them for 8 minutes, 4 minutes on each side.
