Following the example of Spain, has decided to join a new Interpol program which aims to locate and recover assets that are in the hands of international criminal groups.
This program has as its main pillar the call ‘Silver Notification’. It has been put into operation this month and seeks Help countries share alerts and requests for information globally.
As the Royal Gibraltar Police have explained in , “the tool also will allow Gibraltar to identify assets linked to crime in other countriesas well as local assets in the Rock linked to criminal activities in other jurisdictions.”
Along with 51 other countries and territories, the Gibraltar Interpol Sub-Office will be part of this pilot program that It will be valid until next November.
And spokesperson for the Gibraltar Coordination Center for Drugs and Criminal Intelligence has highlighted that “now We may request information about assets linked to a person’s criminal activities.such as fraud, corruption, drug trafficking, crimes against the environment and other serious crimes.”
“It can help us locate, identify and obtain information about laundered assets, including property, vehicles, financial accounts and businesses.”. “We are proud to have adhered to this plan and to contribute to the fight against international crime and to making the world a safer place,” added the spokesperson.
For his part, the Gibraltarian Chancellor of the Exchequer, Nigel Feethamhas argued that “one of the most effective ways to fight international organized crime is deprive criminals of illegally obtained benefits.”
“We trust that this tool will help to our local security forces to dismantle criminal networks and to improve cooperation with international counterparts,” Feetham highlighted.
