Corinthians beat Red Bull Bragantino 2-1, on Thursday night (16/01), in the first round of the Campeonato Paulista, at the Nabi Abi Chedid Stadium, in Bragança Paulista. Lucas Evangelista opened the scoring, but Talles Magno and Pedro Raul turned it around.

With the result, Massa Bruta is in second place in Group B, with one point. Corinthians is currently in first place in Group A, also with one point.

Timão returns to the field on Sunday (19/01), against Velo Clube, at 7pm, at Neo Química Arena. Bragantino faces São Bernardo, on the same day, but at 4pm, away from home.

Bragantino x Corinthians: how the game was

The match started with Red Bull Bragantino pressing. With less than a minute, Jhon Jhon was in front of the goal and from close range, Donelli made the save. At two, Lucas Evangelista kicked and Donelli saved again. Until at seven, the goal came. Capixaba crossed to the head of Evangelista, who touched the corner to score.

With an advantage on the scoreboard, the team from Bragança Paulista once again reached 12. Pitta won the pivot and filled his foot, but was blocked. A minute later, Romero invaded the area and was brought down by Juninho Capixaba. The referee awarded a penalty, but the VAR signaled an offside at the beginning of the play.

From then on, Corinthians grew and started creating chances. At 28, Charles hit from outside the area, but the ball went over the goal. A minute later, Romero scored, Cleiton rebounded, but managed to play for a corner before Hector Fernández arrived. With 38, Romero took a risk from the edge of the area, but was stopped.

The last dangerous move of the first half was from Corinthians. At 46, Hugo took a free kick and the ball went past Cleiton’s right post.

The second half started with Corinthians almost conceding the goal. Two minutes in, Sasha headed into the small area and Donelli made a great save. However, Timão responded quickly and tied at four. Romero crossed towards Pedro Raul, Juninho Capixaba headed the wrong way into the small area. Connected to the play, Talles Magno just pushed it into the back of the net.

Behind the marker, Bragantino started to attack more. Isidro Pitta crossed and Donelli missed the punch, almost putting it into his own goal. At 25, Juninho Capixaba took a free kick from the edge of the area, but over the goal.

However, Bragantino did not score and Corinthians took advantage to turn the game around. At 33, Ryan crossed just right for Pedro Raul, inside the small area and in a legal position, to head the ball into the ground and beat goalkeeper Cleiton. The goal sparked Corinthians, who almost scored twice with Yuri Alberto, but the striker missed the ball on both occasions.

Bragantino responded at 38. Lucas Evangelista, from afar, hit hard. Goalkeeper Matheus Donelli palmed it and, on the rebound, Hugo won the split with Lucas Barbosa. In the final minutes, Bragantino even pressed, but did not pose any danger to Timão, who came away with the triumph.
