North American currency exceeds R$6 since the end of 2024; minister declares he does not know when the exchange rate will “park”
The Minister of Finance, , said this Friday (17 January 2025) that I wouldn’t buy dollars above R$5.70. The North American currency has been priced at more than R$6.00 since the end of 2024.
“Today, would I buy dollars at R$6? No. I wouldn’t buy it above R$5.70 […] In my opinion, anything above R$5.70 is expensive”declared Haddad in an interview with CNN. He soon complemented the answer by stating that it was not “consultant”.
WHAT INFLUENCED THE DOLLAR
The dollar is rising because of external factors, such as of Donald Trump (Republican) in the United States elections. But the developments in the Brazilian economy boosted – a lot – the variation of the currency.
The greatest distrust is in relation to the economic team’s fiscal policy. THE with the expectation of saving R$71 billion from public accounts in 2 years, it is seen as not very credible and insufficient.
In the interview with CNNHaddad sought to highlight international issues: “The exchange rate is not fixed in Brazil. The level at which the dollar stabilizes depends on variables that we do not control, one of which is external interest rates and geopolitical conditions. There are a number of things”.
