Pepper can be black, white, green or red. Although all varieties come from the same plant, they differ in color. This is influenced by the period of grain collection and their subsequent processing. It must be admitted that black pepper can be found in almost every Polish cuisine. The seeds are collected from unripe, green fruits. They are fermented and dried. Then they lose their brown color and become black, hard and wrinkled. Their taste is very intense and spicy.

White pepper is a different type of seed – they are harvested when the black pepper fruits are ripe. First, they are soaked in water to remove the outer part of the pericarp. The gray beans obtained from this process are dried until they become whitish. Their scent is very distinctive.

So what is the difference between white pepper and black pepper? Apart from the moment when the grains are harvested, primarily the level of sharpness. Due to the loss of the outer, dark shell white pepper is less hot and has a more subtle flavor.

The spice is also worth using because of its valuable properties. White pepper can have a beneficial effect on the body. Contains vitamins C, K and those from the B group and numerous minerals, including magnesium, calcium, iron, potassium, phosphorus, selenium, sodium and manganese. Its composition also has benefits for the intestines dietary fiber and good for the heart healthy fats.

White pepper is a source of essential oils they have anti-inflammatory, soothing and detoxifying properties. Regularly adding spices to dishes will also have a beneficial effect on the digestive system. It will accelerate metabolism, improve digestive processes, remove residual waste and unnecessary metabolic products.. It will also soothe in case of indigestion.

White pepper is considered a strong antioxidant, which is why it delays the aging of the body. Improves the appearance of the skin and prevents the occurrence of deep wrinkles. Content of antioxidants and vitamins strengthens immunity, improves blood circulation and reduces the risk of many chronic diseases (such as cancer or atherosclerosis).

B vitamins and magnesium, which are also found in white pepper, influence the proper functioning of the nervous system. Thanks to this relieve symptoms of stress, soothe nerves and reduce fatigue.

Although the smell of white pepper is intense, its taste is definitely more delicate than the black variety. You can easily buy it in supermarkets or order it online – both granular and ground. After purchasing it, however, it must be stored in an airtight container to prevent it from getting stale.

What is white pepper used for? It is recommended to add it to dishes that take a long time to cook – e.g. stews or soups. Then it releases all its flavor. White pepper (preferably ground pepper, which has the most flavor) can also be added for meat marinade or fish and seafood sauce. They will gain some sharpness.

Ground white pepper is also useful in the kitchen. It’s worth seasoning with it salads, sandwiches, pates, sandwich spreads and sauces. A pinch will also work as an addition to drinks that will greatly accelerate metabolism. So add a little to your tea or vegetable juice.
