Motorpor inaugurated its new facilities in Faro this Thursday, where seven car brands are now represented. This investment in the Algarve ends a three-year cycle of strong expansion in the region, with a total value of around 5 million euros.
The new space occupies a total area of 9 thousand square meters, with 3,400 square meters dedicated to the construction area. The new facilities include showrooms for each of the brands represented by Motorpor in the Algarve — Fiat/Fiat Profissional, Abarth, Peugeot, Opel, Citroën, Jeep and DS. In addition, the company has a new building that houses a collision unit, a parts center, a vehicle logistics center and, soon, a training center.
The inauguration ceremony brought together more than 200 guests, including several personalities linked to the Algarve and the automotive sector, such as the mayor of Faro, Rogério Bacalhau, and the country manager of the Stellantis group in Portugal, Pedro Lazarino. The state secretary of Tourism, Pedro Machado, was unable to attend, but sent a congratulatory video.
Manuel Coutinho, CEO of Motorpor, highlighted the importance of this investment for the company: “It constitutes a significant milestone in the company’s expansion strategy at national level and in strengthening our presence in the Algarve region, where we want to continue to be a factor of modernization, innovation, job creation and offering innovative sustainable mobility solutions.”
The person in charge also added: “We have already created around 45 additional jobs in the Algarve and, soon, we will have new developments in Portimão, with the aim of providing the Barlavento Algarve with the facilities and service conditions best adapted to the needs of our customers.”
The opening of the new facilities in Faro also marked the beginning of DS Automobiles’ first concession in the Algarve. This premium brand from the Stellantis group stands out for its sophistication, innovative design and cutting-edge technology, offering customers exclusive and personalized experiences.
To celebrate the inauguration, guests were able to see first-hand the new DS Nº8 model, the brand’s first 100% electric creation, with a combined range of 750 kilometers, including more than 500 kilometers on the motorway. This model should only be sold in Portugal from the second quarter of the year.
Before the official inauguration, a protocol was signed between Motorpor and CEPRA (Professional Training Center for Automobile Repair) for the creation of an automotive technical training center in the Algarve. Motorpor provided the facilities and carried out the necessary adaptations for the center to operate. The first course, in the area of bodywork repair, lasting seven months, starts next Monday with 14 trainees, with the number of applications exceeding 60.
“We are convinced that this new training center will provide not only Motorpor, but also the entire region with the necessary technical capacity that is so fundamental in a sector undergoing profound transformation”, highlighted Manuel Coutinho.
Currently, the Motorpor Group has 269 employees nationwide. In 2024, it achieved a turnover of close to 100 million euros and sold more than 3,000 new vehicles and 1,800 used vehicles, totaling around 5,000 units.
