“Paris, we are arriving today”, reads the advertisement

An advertisement for the airline shows a plane flying towards the Eiffel Tower. Users didn’t like it, and the government opened an investigation.

“Paris, we are arriving today”, says the announcement from Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), which intended to mark the return of flights to Europe. However, the marketing strategy did not go down very well with social media users.

In the comments to the post on social media, there are users who write criticisms such as: “Is this an advertisement or a threat?“, or “Who thought this ad was a good idea?”.

Omar Qureshi, Former media advisor to Pakistani politician Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also questioned the idea behind the ad, saying he was “truly speechless”.

“Didn’t the idiot who drew this graphic see a PIA plane heading towards the Eiffel Tower? One of the most emblematic landmarks in Europe”, he commented.

Now the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, ordered the opening of a inquiry to understand how the publication of the controversial advertisement was authorized.

The ad highlights the first flight from Islamabad (Pakistani capital) to the French capital since 2020, which sold out the more than 300 available places. The first trip took place on January 10th.

The suppressions of almost 5 years were imposed after the episode in which aairline plane crashed in Karachi, in southern Pakistan, resulting in the deaths of 97 people.

The European Union’s aviation safety agency then banned PIA flights to Europe. A subsequent Pakistani government investigation into the accident revealed that around a third of Pakistani pilots had cheated in piloting exams.
