Russia threatens Europe with several attacks. Europe should be more concerned with security, adds Sikorski.

At a press conference in Berlin on Friday, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski declared that Europe is “under attack from Russia” in the form of political assassinations, cyber threats, acts of sabotage and arson. At the same time, he called on Europe to start seriously dealing with its own defense. TASR he writes about it according to a report from the DPA agency.

The head of Polish diplomacy drew attention to several attacks by Moscow on European soil, including several assassinations in Germany and the United Kingdom. He added that the Czech Republic, Lithuania and Poland are also on the list of countries affected by Russian acts of sabotage – such as arson, threats or infrastructure disruption. According to him, repeated Polish warnings against the threat from Russia turned out to be correct.

He drew attention to cyber attacks

Sikorski emphasized that Russian attacks on Europe have been taking place online for years, and that the countries there are under “constant (fire) of cyber attacks”. In connection with this claim, he mentioned the alleged interventions in the Brexit referendum or in the December presidential elections in Romania.

The minister said that the Russian strategy is obvious in these attacks. “Vladimir Putin is unequivocally provoking us and trying to manipulate our electoral systems and institutions in order to restore Russian control over another territory and also to destroy Western alliances,” he said. According to him, all these events are related to the Russian secret service GRU, which is responsible for the perpetrators hires and pays them for attacks.

At the press conference, Sikorski also commented on the conflict in Ukraine. He praised defense spending of two percent of GDP, which several NATO member states have implemented in recent years. He declared that Poland is leading them, as its defense spending is likely to reach 4.7 percent of GDP in 2025.

According to him, there is currently no sign of a truce between Moscow and Kyiv, and he rejected the idea that Poland could be a mediator. “We are Ukraine’s best friend… and we consider Putin’s Russia an enemy state,” he declared, making it clear that Warsaw’s position is not neutral. Sikorski also promised that Poland “will focus on security” during its presidency of the EU Council.
