A group of researchers from the United States and Australia made an interesting discovery.
During their research in the Nilpena Ediacara Park in South Australia, they discovered traces of a multicellular organism that lived on our planet during the Ediacaran period – about 635-538 million years ago.
As “MK in Volgograd” reports, the discovery was named Quaestio simpsonorum. It is a multicellular organism that, according to researchers, reached 8 centimeters wide and moved on the sea floor. This organism was bilaterally symmetrical, suggesting sufficient genetic complexity for the organism discovered.
Quaestio simpsonorum fed on other microorganisms on the bottom of the sea. According to scientists, during this period no living organism was able to dig through the sediments, so it was not difficult for the discovered organism to find its food.
