Deputy claims that minister Alexandre de Moraes banned the former president from attending Trump’s inauguration to weaken the opposition

The federal deputy (PL-SP) published this Friday (17 January 2025) a video criticizing the veto of the ex-president (PL) going to the United States over that of the elected president, Donald Trump (Republican).

In the recording made in English, the congressman stated that Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), not releasing the former president’s passport is a political act. The document has been in existence since February 2024 due to the investigation into an alleged coup attempt.

“Jair Bolsonaro’s ban on Donald Trump’s inauguration is not only an unfair decision against him, but also a serious interference by the Judiciary in Brazilian politics,” declared Eduardo.

Watch (3min31s):

He also states that the objective of the ban is to favor the president’s government (PT) and weaken the opposition “in a way that is unacceptable in a democracy.”

“This ban does not protect law enforcement or serve the public interest. For the On the contrary, it exposes the use of the Judiciary as a tool to suffocate political opponents and silence those who dare to question the authoritarian regime that is being created in Brazil”, declared.

The deputy said he will internationally denounce all decisions against his father.

“We will appeal this decision and denounce every act of persecution to the international community, every arbitrary decision that prevents President Bolsonaro from acting as leader of the opposition,” stated.
