Chairman of the opposition party Progressive Slovakia (PS) Michal Šimečka during his visit to Kyiv on Friday met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Simečka said that the Ukrainian president he is interested in good relations and cooperation. TASR informs about this according to the post of PS on the social network Facebook.
“An important meeting with President Zelensky. I have a clear message from him for Slovakia. Ukraine appreciates our support and is interested in the best relations and cooperation – including energy. And she is ready to negotiate. This is exactly what I am challenging (Prime Minister) Robert Fico to do now,” wrote Šimečka. According to his words, the PS delegation managed to “reopen the door that Prime Minister Fico slammed so unnecessarily with his aggressive attacks”.
Simečka on Friday visited Kyiv together with several opposition politicians from the PS. In addition to Šimeček, the delegation in the Ukrainian capital also includes member of the PS presidency Ivan Korčok, MP and vice-president of the movement Tomáš Valášek and MPs Beáta Jurík and Lucia Plaváková, the director of the media department of the PS Alena Kuišová confirmed to the media.
Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic Fico (Smer-SD) on Thursday confirmed that they are currently looking for another date for the meeting with Zelensky. Fico originally proposed joint negotiations to the Ukrainian president on the territory of the Slovak Republic near the state border with Ukraine. The topic was supposed to be the situation surrounding the transit of natural gas through Ukraine and bilateral relations. In a short statement on the X social network, Zelensky agreed to the negotiations and invited Fico to Kyiv on Friday.
