Midfielder Paulo Henrique Ganso is away from training and Fluminense’s upcoming games due to a small myocarditis, identified during pre-season tests. On Saturday afternoon (18), Fluminense communicated the diagnosis via social media and confirmed that Ganso will stay away from physical activities, as part of the treatment.

According to the club’s press office, Ganso will be under the care of the medical department and will be examined again in four weeks.

Check out Fluminense’s official note:

Fluminense FC informs that midfielder Paulo Henrique Ganso was diagnosed with a small myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle) during the team’s pre-season exams. Without any symptoms, the athlete will be away from physical activities as part of the treatment, will be under the care of the club’s medical department and will be examined again in four weeks. If the clinical condition is no longer detected, he will be able to return to training normally. The myocarditis was acquired recently, as it had not been detected in the tests carried out during the six years he has been at Fluminense. Most likely, it occurred as a result of a very strong flu that the athlete had in November.

Myocarditis

Myocarditis is inflammation of the muscle tissue of the heart (myocardium) that causes tissue death. Myocarditis can be caused by a variety of problems, including infections, toxins, and medications that affect the heart.

Next appointment

Fluminense’s next match will be on Saturday night (18), at 7pm, against Maricá, in a match valid for the third round of the Carioca Championship, at the Estádio de Moça Bonita, in Bangu, Rio de Janeiro.
