According to SocialBlade, a tool that monitors social media profile metrics, a federal deputy gained three million followers after publishing a video criticizing the government and Pix inspection
The federal deputy (PL-MG) this week became the second most followed Brazilian politician on Instagram. According to data from the SocialBlade tool, which monitors social media profile metrics, Nikolas gained three million followers on Instagram after publishing a video criticizing the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and the Federal Revenue ordinance that expanded monitoring of financial transactions via Pix and credit card. The video has accumulated more than 300 million views, while the Minas Gerais profile has 15.4 million followers as of this Friday afternoon (17).
According to interlocutors from the Palácio do Planalto interviewed by Estadão Columnthe reach of Nikolas’ video was one of the main factors in the crisis that led to the revocation of the Tax Authority’s rule. Allies of the Lula government, in fact, fear Nikolas’ growth as a “hero” of the repeal. With the viral, the Minas Gerais native surpassed Lula himself in the number of followers on Instagram. With 13.3 million followers, the president was, until this Wednesday (15), the second most followed politician on the platform, behind only former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), with 26.1 million followers.
The increase in Nikolas’ follower base was not restricted to Instagram. Also according to SocialBlade, the Minas Gerais native gained 800 thousand followers on TikTok this week, reaching 7.1 million. Lula has 5 million followers on TikTok, while Bolsonaro’s profile on the network is followed by 6.2 million. At the beginning of the week, Nikolas already had more followers on TikTok than the president and the former president, but he expanded his advantage over both with the viral video.
A asked the Federal Police (PF) to open an investigation into the dissemination of fake news about the Pix ordinance. In an interview with CNN Brasil, Nikolas said he feared that the investigation could affect him. “I am being investigated because I called Lula a thief. In other words, inquiry by inquiry opening one more for me is joining the queue. After all, if you are honest in this country, the chance of you being persecuted is huge”, said the deputy. On X (formerly Twitter), Lula, with 9.3 million followers, and Bolsonaro, with 13.5 million, continue to have an advantage over Nikolas, with 4.5 million followers.
