The spacecraft was supposed to make a near-circular flight over the Gulf of Mexico from Texas nearly circling the planet, a flight similar to previous tests.
SpaceX had equipped it with 10 dummy satellites to practice releasing them. It was the first flight of this new and upgraded version of the spacecraft.
