The Minister of Environment and Energy defended this Friday, in the Algarve, the construction of small photovoltaic energy projects across the country, during the inauguration of a solar plant with an annual production capacity of 200 kW (kilowatt).
“The ongoing energy transition must be close to everyone and the population must feel part of it. I like these projects that are close to people”, said Maria da Graça Carvalho during the inauguration of the Photovoltaic Plant for self-consumption at the Pumping Station in Praia da Marina, in Vilamoura.
For the government official, small renewable energy projects should be “spread across the country” in spaces where “they do not disturb nature or the landscape”.
The inaugurated solar plant is installed in a parking lot and has an annual production capacity of 200 kW, energy that is used to power the wastewater pumping station at Alameda da Praia da Marina, reducing dependence on non-renewable energy sources.
The new infrastructure has 358 double-sided panels, and the equipment can absorb solar radiation on top, as well as the heat that radiates from the ground.
The investment in this infrastructure was 240,000 euros, being part of the Municipal Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change.
The president of that Chamber, Vítor Aleixo, thanked the “stimulus” given by the Government in supporting the energy transition and assured that the municipality “is on the path of the future in combating climate change”.
On the other hand, Maria da Graça Carvalho also stated that she intends to “simplify everything that has to do with self-consumption” for people.
“It is very important that everyone feels that they are doing their part”, said the minister, adding that consumers must be able to decide whether to stay connected to the electricity grid or remain completely independent, with their own production.
The minister began the day with a presentation by municipal officials on Loulé’s climate action policy, with emphasis on protected areas under municipal initiative, such as the recent Local Natural Reserve of Foz do Almargem and Trafal.
He then visited several environmentally friendly projects, with emphasis on the Arcaya development, a new residential condominium that stands out for its strong sustainability component, in harmony with nature, and high standards of energy efficiency.
