The Revolutionary Guards’ naval force uncovered an underground naval base “in the waters of southern Iran,” according to images broadcast by state Iranian television showing dozens of small boats equipped with machine guns and missiles parked in labyrinthine underground galleys, two days before the inauguration of the new US President Donald Trump
The base “where these attack boats with missile launchers are stationed is located at a depth of 500 meters in the waters of southern Iran,” Iranian television reported.
General Hossein Salami, commander of the Revolutionary Guards, and General Alireza Tangsiri, commander of the Guards’ naval forces, visited the base, according to images released.
State television clarified that “some of these vessels” have the ability to hit US ships and destroyers.
On January 10, General Salami inspected an underground missile base that Iranian media reported was used in the 200-missile attack against Israel, which included hypersonic missiles for the first time.
Iran claimed the attack was carried out in retaliation for the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniya in July in Tehran. Iran also cited the death of an Iranian general in a September attack in Lebanon that killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
In late October, Israel announced that it had carried out strikes against Iranian military installations in response to Tehran’s attack.
