O novo Aptera Launch Edition EVit looks like an airplane, has three wheels, is powered by solar energy, has 630 kilometers of autonomy, and is 50% more efficient than a Tesla.
The electric vehicle (EV) was shown to the world, for the first time, at CES 2025 – the largest technology fair in the world, which took place last week in Las Vegas.
In addition to the eccentric appearance of this three-wheeled vehicle that looks like an airplane, the big news is its autonomy: it has 640 km of autonomy on a single charge .
These 640 are distributed across 64 kilometers using solar energy and 400 using electricity.
As detailed by , which was present at CES 2025, the car incorporates four solar panels placed on the hood, dashboard, roof and hatch.
Aptera representatives explained that this project only has one-tenth of the parts needed for traditional projects, with just six key components of the bodywork that make up the chassis.
The aforementioned feature makes the vehicle lighter and more efficient in terms of energy than conventional electric vehicles, while theoffers a 50% reduction in aerodynamic resistance.
Furthermore, it is 50% more efficient than a Tesla Model S (2022), for example.
The Aptera EV’s 400-mile maximum range comes very close to today’s longest-range vehicles, such as: The Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ has a 400-mile maximum range, according to the EV Database, followed by the Lucid Air Grand Touring with 660 km.
Harnessing solar energy in EVs is not unprecedented, with Mercedes-Benz debuting a new type of solar paint in November 2024 that could power an EV for up to 12,000 kilometers per year in ideal lighting conditions.
As Live Science says, it is not clear when Aptera will launch the new electric car, but the company has closed a according to LGat CES 2025, who will receive cylindrical battery cells by 2031 to support increased manufacturing.
