He didn’t really impose himself as a theme for a music festival: Thomas Bernhard, despite having a passion for the subject, was always first and foremost a man of his words. The fact that he is still the focus of the resonances these days, the early music festival in the Konzerthaus, is mainly thanks to his prose work “Old Masters”: In it, an art expert named Reger not only talks about the greats of painting, but also about them the art of music from leather.
