Georgie Swallow thought she was just tired and stressed. She also ignored the itchy feet, night sweats and general feeling of exhaustion for a long time, thinking it was normalwrites . However, she heard a devastating diagnosis from the doctors, it was cancer.
“I went to the doctor who thought the itching could be stress, allergies or hives, but no amount of cream or lifestyle change has alleviated it. During this time I lost weight, had night sweats, was constantly exhausted and suffered from frequent colds and flus“, she zoomed in.
After being PN for two weeks, she returned to work and she discovered a lump the size of a peach on her neck. When she learned the diagnosis, she was shocked. “It wasn’t until the doctor told me I had stage 4 Hodgkin’s lymphoma that I realized how serious it was,” she admits, saying that she never even thought about cancer. At first, she was worried that she was just wasting the time of the paramedics. “That’s why lymphoma is diagnosed so late because the symptoms are so easily mistaken for common problems.” she emphasized.
Georgie, now 32, also received another blow. She went through the early stages of menopause at a young age. “Physically, it was like being hit by a bus. Cancer can take quite a lot from you, but having my fertility taken away before I had a chance to get pregnant was tough. Menopause can be difficult at any age, but at 28 I had no one to talk to about it. None of my friends understood what I was going through, and even though they were supportive, it was hard for them to relate to something they didn’t understand.“ she stated.
