Are you planning a renovation and can’t decide between vinyl and laminate floors? We bring you a comprehensive guide to the world of modern floor coverings. You will learn all about their advantages, disadvantages and find out which one is the right one for your home.
Vinyl floors: A modern revolution in our homes
Vinyl floors represent a revolutionary material that is winning the hearts of more and more Slovaks. This modern PVC-based material offers an incredible resemblance to natural wood, but brings many more advantages. Thanks to its thin construction (usually up to 6 mm), it becomes a practical solution especially for reconstructions, where every millimeter of height matters.
Among the greatest advantages of vinyl floors is their 100% waterproofness. This makes them an ideal choice for kitchens or bathrooms, where we normally encounter higher humidity. In addition, they are pleasant to the touch and excellently dampen noise. They don’t make unpleasant noises when walking, and thanks to their flexibility, they are gentler on your joints.
Installing vinyl floors is a real breeze. Modern “click” type systems enable easy assembly even by less skilled home craftsmen. If adjustments are needed, a sharp knife is enough – you don’t need any special tools.
Laminate floors: A proven classic with new possibilities
Laminate flooring is a traditional choice, but it still holds its place in the limelight. Their multi-layer construction consisting of a laminate layer, an HDF board and a protective surface ensures excellent resistance to mechanical wear.
The biggest advantage of laminate floors is their scratch resistance. The top layer is thicker than vinyl flooring, which means that potential scratches are not as visible. Another significant plus is compatibility with electric underfloor heating – of course, if the correct thickness and temperature limits are observed.
In terms of price, laminate floors are often a more affordable alternative. On the market, you will find a huge selection of designs and colors, thanks to which everyone can choose according to their taste and budget.
Which floor to choose? It is the purpose that decides and yet
When choosing a floor, it is crucial to consider in which room you plan to install it. We definitely recommend vinyl floors for areas with higher humidity (bathrooms, kitchens). On the contrary, laminate floors can be a better choice for living rooms and bedrooms, where you appreciate a warmer surface and there is no problem with humidity.
The condition of the substrate is also an important factor. For an uneven surface, thicker laminate floors are more suitable, which better cover minor imperfections. Vinyl floors require a perfectly flat base, otherwise there is a risk of their deformation.
