After the duty shifts in the Algarve, revealed by Investigação SIC, there are more time records that António Gandra d’Almeida also made at the Gaia hospital. The government is already preparing the place for its successor, while the opposition intensifies criticism of the Executive’s “bad policy”.
The resignation, accepted by the Minister of Health, is not enough for the opposition. The parties want explanations from António Gandra d’Almeida and Ana Paula Martins and do not forgive the case, which exposed, to go public and say that it is a symptom of bad policy.
The PCP wants an appointment through a public competition, Chega demands access to all the documentation on the choice of the executive director of the SNS, and the Bloco de Esquerda has already submitted the request for urgent hearings in Parliament.
After SIC revealed where António Gandra d’Almeida worked, receiving through a company he created with his wife, he was also a worker at the Gaia hospital in the same years in which he held a management position at INEM and until the year past, in which he was chosen to be the executive director of the SUS.
The names on the table
The announcement of the next executive director of the SNS was scheduled for the next few days.
“(…) The new Executive Director of the SNS will be announced in the coming days”, revealed the Ministry of Health in the note issued on Friday.
He adds that the choice is between three names and cites sources linked to the process: Carlos Martinswho replaced Ana Paula Martins as head of the Santa Maria Board of Directors; Álvaro Santos Almeidawho was president of the Health Regulatory Entity, and José Miguel Guimarãesformer president of doctors and PSD deputy.
