In December 2024, Brazil faced an alarming scenario, with 41.5% of Brazilian adults struggling with financial difficulties. This percentage represents around 68 million consumers with overdue bills, as revealed by a survey by the National Confederation of Retail Managers (CNDL) in partnership with the Credit Protection Service (). The average debt per person reached R$4,432.05.
The age group most impacted by this default is 30 to 39 years old, which constitutes 23.64% of those in debt. Furthermore, 31% of debts registered in December were for outstanding amounts of up to R$500. The banking sector stands out as the main creditor, concentrating 64.62% of debts, followed by water and electricity bills, which represent 10 .87%, and debts with commerce, which total 10.32%. This data reflects the financial pressure that many Brazilians face, making it difficult to keep their accounts up to date.
