During a new interview about the role in the film “I’m Still Here”the actress Fernanda Torres59, detailed the nuances of playing Eunice Paiva. In a subtle way, the woman, who existed in real life, faces survival and fights to stay strong for her children in the midst of chaos.

“I was surprised by the honesty of this film,” said Torres in an interview with the North American podcast The Next Best Picture. “The way we act, it doesn’t seem like acting. Because when you act, there are usually a lot of codes, rules, which is good, but that is fictional, how you should cry, how you should scream, how the camera should record an angry scene. In this film, Walter [Salles] practically disappeared”, added the artist, talking about the director of the Brazilian feature film.

The actress then reflected on how Eunice did not need to “impose” the public to feel what she was going through.

“She doesn’t cry and that’s something we wanted to be very faithful to Eunice. Everything seemed very real, it was a very true film. I was surprised by our performance, I was surprised by myself. It was an honest performance, which I am very proud of. It taught me a lot. When Eunice doesn’t cry, it is the audience that cries for her. The audience knows what she’s going through, but she doesn’t show it,” said Torres.

“I’m Still Here” is an adaptation. The story takes place in the 1970s, during the most intense period of the military dictatorship in Brazil, and follows the trajectory of the Paiva family, made up of Rubens (played by ), Eunice (played by ) and their children.

The family’s life is completely transformed when, on one fateful day, Rubens Paiva is taken by undercover soldiers and disappears without leaving a trace.

The cast also features Valentina Herszage (“She for Her”), Maeve Jinkings (“Toll”), Antonio Saboia (“Private Desert”), Olivia Torres (“Continent”), Humberto Carrão (“Aquarius”), Dan Stulbach (“Women in Love”), Charles Fricks (“Land and Passion”), Caio Horowicz (“Word of Mouth”), Daniel Dantas (“Pega Pega) and more.
