When to sow and plant? If we want to enjoy colorful plants that bloom all summer and at the same time grow seedlings ourselves, we have to start working in January, or at the latest in February. Then the plants will have enough time to develop before the summer season.
Sowing petunias step by step
Place petunia seeds in boxes or pots in moist peat soil (water before sowing). Gently press the seeds into the soil, but do not cover them with soil. Try not to sow too densely. Then cover the container with foil or glass to keep the humidity high and warm. Place the container in a place with a temperature of about 20-22 degrees C.
Germinating and transplanting petunias
After about 7-14 days, the seeds should sprout. Remove the foil or glass when the first seedlings appear. Move the container to a bright place, but avoid direct sunlight. When the seedlings are 2-3 cm high, transplant them to larger pots. Use soil rich in nutrients, such as for flowering plants.
When to put petunias on the balcony?
Petunias can be placed on the balcony once the risk of frost has passed (usually after mid-May). Remember to remove faded flowers to encourage the plants to continue blooming.
Watering and fertilizing petunias
Water petunias regularly but moderately. The soil should be moist, but not saturated with water. It is best to water in the morning or evening, avoiding watering in full sun. Petunias need regular fertilization to bloom profusely. You can use fertilizers available in gardening stores or use home remedies. For example, a banana preparation.
Petunias. Position
Petunias grow best in sunny positions, but they also tolerate partial shade. The more sun, the more abundantly they will bloom. Avoid places exposed to strong winds, which may damage delicate flowers.
