Okława is a real work of nature that attracts the eye and adds character to the interior. Its unusual appearance fits perfectly into modern arrangements, but it also suits classic interiors. You can hang it by the window, place it on the windowsill or create an original composition with it – you are only limited by your imagination.

The tillandsia flower is a tropical plant that grows in both zones of America. Its natural habitat also includes desert areas, mountain peaks and wet marshes.

In tropical forests it occurs as an epiphyte – feeds itself, but treats trees as supports. It grows in their crowns, so a lot of light reaches it.

Its root system is poorly developed and the leaves form shieldswhich absorb moisture, take in water during rains and obtain food. Thanks to them, the leaves of the specimen have a silver-gray color. They usually form rosettes.

In our climate, weeds should be grown indoors. They can even bloom at home, but we have to buy ones that have not bloomed yet, with side shoots. Their flowers are small, growing from scaly leaves. After flowering, the plant dies, but produces new plants before it completely dries out.

Tillandsia is an easy plant to growbut as with every specimen, we must apply specific rules to make it grow beautifully and healthily. Which ones are we talking about?

We place the plant in a bright place with diffused light. In summer, it is best to choose an eastern or northern window sill for it, and in winter, a southern one. Let’s avoid not only direct sunlight, but also drafts.

This plant does not need a pot. However, if we decide to plant it in the ground, it should be as follows . We can also mix peat with moss. It is important that the soil is permeable. We also recommend adding a drainage layer, e.g. of stones or expanded clay, at the bottom of the vessel.

In summer, the temperature in the room where we grow the specimen should be from 21 to 24 degrees Celsius. In winter, however cannot be lower than 13 degrees Celsius.

We water the weeds 1-2 times a week. Then we pour water into the leaf rosette, which is adapted to this method of irrigation.

We can also immerse this plant repeatedly in a bowl of settled and boiled water. This way we will ensure its complete hydration. After the treatment, shake it off excess water and leave it to dry in a ventilated place. This applies to species from desert areas, e.g. Tillandsia xerographica.

Another watering method is to water bath tillandsia with thin and green leaves. Immerse it completely in a bowl of boiled and standing water for half an hour. After this time, we also shake off excess water from the specimen and place it in a bright place.

The vines often require spraying, especially when the room humidity is low, temperatures are high and the air conditioning is on. In summer you should do it every day, and in winter twice a week. Both bathing and sprinkling are carried out in the morning or during the day, not in the evening.

We fertilize Tillandsia using a sprayer once a month. We can use a special spray for these flowers or dissolve 1/4 dose of fertilizer for orchids or other flowering plants with a low copper content in water. In this case, we also spray.
