The president () said this Monday (20) at a ministerial meeting that the 2026 electoral campaign has already begun and that he does not want to hand the country “back to neo-Nazism”, in reference to the administration of his predecessor, ().
“Two thousand and twenty-six has already started. If not for us, because we have to work, weed, we have to remove all the burrs, but for our opponents, next year’s election has already started. Just see what you watch on the internet to see that they are already campaigning. The anticipation of the campaign for us is to work, work, work and deliver what the people need”, he said.
“We need to say loud and clear, we want to elect a government to continue the country’s democratic process, we do not want to hand this country back to neo-fascism, neo-Nazism, authoritarianism. We want to deliver it with great education”, he also stated, to the applause of those present.
In the first weeks of the year, the government suffered defeat to the opposition over a rule for this type of transfer that amounted to at least R$5,000 per month.
Lula decided to withdraw from the measure, after attacks from the opposition and a wave of misinformation, which led to a drop in the volume of transactions of this type carried out last week.
On social media, videos of right-wing parliamentarians went viral, notably that of Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG), in which he attacks the government and the measure.
Lula’s statement about the opposition having already started the 2026 campaign was given during the opening of the ministerial meeting, at Granja do Torto. This is the first meeting of the year with the first division.
The meeting started in the morning and should last all day. In addition to ministers, there are also government leaders in Congress.
The meeting is expected to reinforce demand and the rush for ministries to deliver in this second half of the government. The meeting also takes place from the perspective of someone at the top level of the government.
At another point in his speech, Lula mentioned the parties that make up his government and stated that it is necessary to understand whether these parties will support the continuation of management in the 2026 electoral process.
Today, parties that are trying to launch their own candidacy for the Presidency are part of the base of the PT government, such as União Brasil and PSD — each with three ministries in the Esplanada. Furthermore, a wing of the MDB is running for Lula’s vice presidential running mate.
“We have several political parties, I want these parties to continue together, but we are approaching the electoral process and we don’t know if the parties you represent want to continue working with us or not. And this is also your task in the year 2025 “, stated the PT member.
Lula also said that he should have individual conversations with his government’s ministers, at a time when reform is expected at the Esplanada. He thanked the relationship of trust with allies and stated that, from now on, “there will be a lot more work”.
“Not everything that was announced has already borne fruit, we need to know that 2025 is the year of the great harvest of everything we promised the Brazilian people. And we cannot fail. We cannot make mistakes.”
The president wants to convey the message at this meeting that the government has reached its final stretch, it will be necessary to speed up measures and, above all, provide visibility in line with Secom (Presidency Communications Secretariat). The most recent crisis in Planalto reinforced the idea that a more unified discourse is needed on the Esplanada.
Among the opening speeches of the meeting is that of the new minister of Secom, a first for the entire first level of the government. He took office last Tuesday and has already faced the Pix crisis.
as to Sheet showed, one of his first acts at the head of the department was, after diagnosing great wear and tear with this audience. In the opinion of the president’s allies, dialogue with the segment was already difficult and became even worse with the spread of fake news about Pix’s taxation.
One of Sidônio’s main challenges, according to members of the government, will be precisely to align the Esplanada’s speech. There is an understanding at Palácio do Planalto that many ministers, when proposing a measure or making a decision, are not always aligned with the core of government, that is, with what the president wants.
In addition to Lula and Sidônio, all ministers will briefly present an overview of their portfolios and a projection for 2025.
