It is a Czech-Slovak platform that is supposed to create space for dialogue, consultations and information about what is happening in the countries, informed MP Juraj Krúpa (SaS). “We are experiencing really turbulent international times. We see that our international political situation is not developing perfectly ideally,” Krúpa pointed out. According to him, the threats concern both Slovakia and the Czech Republic. “It is important that we continue communication and dialogue,” he said.

The chairman of the Committee for Security of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, Pavel Žáček, considers parliamentary diplomacy to be an important form of communication between states and politicians, even more so when it concerns Slovakia. Questioning Slovakia’s membership in NATO is unacceptable for them, and these statements also question collective defense.

Every country needs partners and allies in order to be influential and effective, says deputy Tomáš Valášek (PS). That is why he regrets how the government of Robert Fico (Smer-SD) is destroying these partnerships. “We don’t want to leave it alone, so we are taking action. (…) Parties that have a similar perception of the world are trying to keep the flame of Czech-Slovak parliamentary cooperation alive as much as possible, so that there is something to build on and this relationship does not disappear,” stated Valášek.

According to its vice-president and MP Marián Čaučík, the KDH is convinced that Slovakia’s path lies in close cooperation with partners in the EU and Czech partners. He believes that this Slovak cooperation will ensure the development of democracy, economic development and security.

A member of the Czech Senate, David Smoljak, believes that pro-democracy-minded politicians must unite to defend the rule of law and the independence of institutions. “This is the most important reason why similar platforms should take place and continue their work,” he stated.

The member of the Czech Chamber of Deputies, Martin Exner, pointed out that both countries are members of the European Union and the North Atlantic Alliance, and members must fulfill their obligations in these structures and be good partners.
