This Monday (20), in Xapuri, the biggest religious festival in the city and one of the biggest in the state takes place: the procession of São Sebastião, the martyr of the Catholic Church and patron saint of the municipality.
The community has been celebrating for nine days, with novenas, rosaries and masses. This Monday, around 4pm, the procession will take place through the streets of the city, which is expected to bring together more than 20 thousand people.
Saint Sebastian stood out as a defender of the Church, acting as a soldier, captain and apostle of confessors, those who were imprisoned for their faith. He was also an apostle of the martyrs, who confessed Jesus in all situations, renouncing their own lives.
This year’s event should be attended by several authorities, as well as faithful from other states and countries, as is traditionally the case.
“The expectation is to receive at least 20 thousand people at this beautiful festival in honor of São Sebastião. We have been celebrating and celebrating since the 11th, with novenas and a vast program”, said Nader Sarkis, one of the event organizers.
After the procession, the party will continue with musical and cultural performances, in addition to the traditional fair, which includes bingo and typical food.
This year’s edition brings technological news
The organization of the event also highlighted something new for this edition: technological innovation, the result of a partnership between the Church, the State Government and the City Hall.
In addition to moments of faith, participants will be able to access services aimed at professional qualification and generation of employment and income. Among the attractions, there will also be a Games Championship, reinforcing the integration between tradition and modernity.
