See how the under-20s leave the situation for Bahia’s main squad in the Bahia Championship

With the pre-season in Girona complete, from now on Bahia will use its main team in competitions. The first challenge for the team coached by Rogério Ceni will be on Thursday (23), against Sampaio Corrêa, in Fonte Nova, in the first round of the Copa do Nordeste. But the tricolor team already has a problem ahead.

In the Campeonato Baiano, the main squad will have to make up for their losses if they don’t want to miss out on the semi-finals. Due to the training period in Europe, Bahia started the state tournament with an alternative team, made up of under-20 players and athletes who returned from loans. The performance was not good at all.

The tricolor has not yet won in the competition. There were two draws, against Jacuipense and Jacobina, and a 1-0 home defeat against Atlético de Alagoinhas. The campaign leaves the club with just two points, in 8th place behind Baianão.

At the moment, the distance to the classification zone is small, two points, and could increase as this Tuesday (21) Porto and Atlético de Alagoinhas face each other in the 3rd round. However, the warning signal is on as Baianão’s first phase is short-lived and there are only six more games left for the tricolor.

Furthermore, the poor performance of the alternative team reduced the margin that Ceni will have to rotate the squad. It is worth remembering that in addition to the lack of pace in the game, the main squad will be divided into three competitions in the coming weeks: Campeonato Baiano, Copa do Nordeste and Libertadores.

Last year, Bahia also used the strategy of using an alternative team in Baiano’s first games while carrying out the pre-season in Manchester. Upon returning to Brazil, the main team received the club with just one point from two matches, but won six of the seven duels they played and secured classification.
