Starbucks said it plans to make layoffs as part of a process to restructure its corporate team.
The size of the cut was not specified, and it should not hit store employees. The decision was communicated to employees on Friday, through a letter from the company’s president and CEO, Brian Niccol.
The company seeks to reduce its complexity. Niccol said decisions will be communicated by early March.
“I do not make these decisions lightly and understand that this will create uncertainty and concern until then,” he wrote. “I wanted to be transparent about our progress and plans and make sure you hear about this work directly from me.”
Starbucks employs 361,000 people worldwide, according to an annual report presented in September.
