In exchange for the first three released hostages, Israel freed 90 Palestinian prisoners.
According to the treating doctors, the first three female hostages released from captivity in the Gaza Strip by the Palestinian movement Hamas are in a stable condition. TASR reports on this based on a report by the DPA agency and the Times of Israel.
Freed Dorona Steinbrecher, 31, Emily Damari, 28, and Romi Gonen, 24, were hospitalized immediately after Red Cross workers took them from Hamas officials in the Gaza Strip. They spent 15 months in captivity from October 7, 2023.
“It will take a few more days to complete all the necessary examinations,” declared Sefi Mendelovic, deputy general director of the Sheba medical center near Tel Aviv, where they were taken. According to him, their state of health is stabilized and their lives are out of danger.
Damari has Israeli-British citizenship and immediately after her release she wrote on the Instagram social network: “I’m back to my beloved life. I am the happiest person in the world,” the Times of Israel quoted her as saying.
Her mother said that her daughter is in much better health than she expected. However, on the day of her abduction, October 7, 2023, she lost two fingers on her left hand.
The cease-fire agreement between Israel and the Hamas movement entered into force on Sunday at 11:15 a.m. local time (10:15 a.m. CET). During three phases, it will allow hundreds of thousands of displaced people from Gaza to return to their homes and guarantee the flow of humanitarian aid.
