These flowers are resistant to low temperatures. You can sow them already in January

Year by year, more and more gardeners decide to sow vegetables and flowers in January. Hard frosts rarely occur, and light frosts do not harm plants that are resistant to low temperatures. Don’t wait until March – start sowing now.

In January, we can sow field poppies and cornflowers directly into the ground. It is also worth preparing:

  • constantly blooming begonia;
  • Cape lobelia;
  • heliotrop peruwiański;
  • shiny sage;
  • Mexican ginseng;
  • garden petunia;
  • border geranium.

Of course, nothing stops you from sowing these plants in February or March. However, we must remember that they will not bloom as quickly as those sown in January.

To carry out January sowing of seedlings, we need to buy appropriate containers, which we fill with universal, good-quality soil. We can also use a specially dedicated substrate for this treatment.

Seeds of ever-flowering begonia, Cape lobelia and garden petunia are pressed into containers with leveled soil.but we do not cover them with foil or glass. We place them at a temperature of at least 20 degrees Celsius, and the seedlings need to be pricked only when 2-3 true leaves appear. We must remember to water these plants regularly.

We start sowing shiny sage in January and can continue it in February. These flowers need 16-20 degrees Celsius to emerge. Mexican ginseng, on the other hand, can grow at a slightly lower temperature, ranging from 12-15 degrees Celsius.

When it comes to bedding geranium, soak its seeds in water at room temperature for 24 hours.. After this time, we place them in the substrate, lightly cover them with sand and cover them with foil. We must provide this plant with a temperature not lower than 20 degrees Celsius. We prick the seedlings when they develop 2-3 leaves.

The sowing of Peruvian heliotrope looks different. Cool the seeds of this flower for a week at a temperature of 1-5 degrees Celsius. After this time, we press them into the ground and place them at a temperature of 20-25 degrees Celsius.

It is worth illuminating the plants with special LED Grow lamps. Thanks to them, they will not be stretched out and weak. Flower seedlings should be placed in the substrate only after May 15. After this date, they are not threatened by spring frosts.
