The red and black fans who were waiting for a new signing can calm their nerves, because Leão remains in the market. Vitória signed the Chilean striker Eduardo Vargas to reinforce the squad led by Thiago Carpini in 2025. Details separate the final agreement for the Bahian club to complete the deal. The information was published by the newspaper MASSA! and confirmed by CORREIO.

The 35-year-old player must sign a two-season contract with the red and black and will be available to coach Thiago Carpini as soon as the deal is finalized and regularized. Scorer of Atlético-MG’s only goal in the Libertadores 2024 final, Vargas is a mobile striker who can play more than one role on the field, either dropping on the edges or as a center forward or a second striker.

Born in Renca, Chile, Eduardo Vargas will play for his third team in Brazil. In 2024, Vargas entered the field 38 times, scoring nine goals and contributing three assists. Throughout his time with the Minas Gerais team, the Chilean scored 33 times and assisted with 15 passes for goals in 167 matches. The striker also played one season at Grêmio, in 2013.

He began his career at clubs in his home country, such as Cobreloa and Universidad de Chile, where he caught the attention of the European scene and was signed by Napoli, from Italy. On the European continent, he also played for Valencia, Queens Park Rangers (QPR) and Hoffenheim before arriving at Tigres, from Mexico.

Eduardo Vargas’ greatest highlight, however, was with the Chilean national team. Vargas is one of the exponents of the winning generation of “La Roja”. Alongside well-known names such as Arturo Vidal, Gary Medel, Claudio Bravo and Alexis Sánchez, he became two-time Copa América champion.
