The president-elect of the United States will be inaugurated this Monday (20), in Washington. The ceremony will be attended by members of the family of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and Brazilian parliamentarians. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) will not attend the event, and the Brazilian government will be represented by Maria Luiza Viotti, Brazilian ambassador to the United States.

The former president held a press conference at Brasília Airport, where he accompanied the departure to the United States of his wife, Michelle Bolsonaro (PL), who will attend the event. The parliamentarian had meetings in Washington with the Argentine president, Javier Milei, and with the exponent of the American extreme right Steve Bannon. Also this weekend, he attended a dinner hosted by the future vice president, JD Vance, and a gala to celebrate the Latin American and Spanish community in the United States. There, he met Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr, who asked about former president Bolsonaro.
In addition to Eduardo Bolsonaro, 19 federal deputies confirmed that they will be present at the inauguration, in addition to senator Jorge Seif (PL-SC). The number is lower than the 39 opposition parliamentarians who expressed interest in attending the event. None of the parliamentarians is on an official mission as a representative of the Legislative Branch. Therefore, the transportation and daily costs were not covered by public resources.
