Although cats are classified as pets, they are not that different from humans. Although he cannot speak, he understands you perfectly, even better than children. See how a new study proved it.

Some love them, some hate them. Cats can be pretty sneaky, and a lot less loyal than dogs, that’s true. But a new study has shown that they are also intelligent and can understand you without a problem. That cats are intelligent is perhaps a bit of a contradiction, especially when they deliver some dead-caught surprise to your doorstep. But supposedly cats can understand your words much better than small children. What is the truth in that?

Cats understand better than children

Cats have absolutely perfect hearing. Although they cannot repeat the words you say, they can hear everything perfectly and even understand your human words. And much better than small children. You probably all know the game that is played with children when they can’t speak properly yet. You have word cards and the children have to correctly match the words to the pictures. This is how children learn their first words and what the given words mean.

But cats can associate pictures with words, too, much faster than small children. But how did this study come about? Whether you like cats or not, the fact is that they have been with us for several thousand years. And they have learned something over the millennia.

Scientists were the first to investigate whether cats can remember their names. It turned out that it did, because when the cats heard it, they always turned or alerted and pricked up their ears more. Three years ago, a study even showed that cats are able to match photos of their human and feline family to the correct names.

Cats know more than you think

The results of the study were absolutely stunning, as they prove that cats naturally understand people. Their knowledge is natural, not based on any training and rewards for correct answers. However, a new study found that cats can associate much more than just the names of family members.

In a game where the cats were given one picture of a unicorn and another picture of a red sun, a fake name was made up for each picture. The unicorn was “keraru” and the red sun was given the false name “paramo”.

Clips with pictures and their invented names were shown after nine seconds. But the cats soon got bored. After the break, the experiment continued, but the cats were in for a surprise.

In some pictures, the names have been changed, which means that the unicorn has “paramo” and the sun has “keraru”. The cats were clearly surprised and confused, with some dilating their pupils in confusion. In doing so, the study proved that cats really can put words together, and they know a lot more than we might realize.
