It was very sad news for fans ofSuch a big sun. While he played the role of Tom Lopez since March 2023, Matéo Paitel made the decision to leave the series. A departure that occurred during the episode of January 17, 2025. Questioned by Allocinatedthe actor explained why he made this decision.
He had become one of the stars ofSuch a big sun. But, a little less than two years after his arrival, Matéo Paitel chose to leave. Having become the main suspect in a murder, Tom does not know how to defend his innocence. He then chooses to flee the country with Virgil (Fred Bianci returned for one episode for the occasion). Asked by Allocinatedhe first took stock of this great adventure: “I liked the duality he has in him. I really liked the fact that he did evil for good. (…) As the story progresses, I have the impression that we see a character who frees himself. I find it rather pretty. It’s nice to see that you can be very hard, hurt and angry and that by meeting the right people you can free yourself.“

Then, Matéo Paitel revealed the reasons which pushed him to take off: “It’s been three years that we’ve been constantly postponing a play that’s very close to my heart because I’m filming. A si grand soleil, it’s great but it requires a lot of time and availability. I am a committed person so when I commit to something I stick to it. Unfortunately in life, you have to make choices. I’ve been working on Un si grand soleil for a year and a half and as I really wanted to do this piece, a choice had to be made.“The charming brunette also wanted to be”a good actor and a complete artist“and therefore, to train in other things.”I would like to learn how to do stunts, I would really like to know how to sing, dance, play an instrument. I wish I could do everything“, he continued.
Then, Matéo Paitel revealed that what he will miss the most is no longer touring with his comrades and the teams of Un si grand soleil. The fact of no longer being in Montpellier, where the filming is taking place, will also leave a big void in his heart.
