If you are a fan of Asian cuisine, you are certainly familiar with Japanese, Korean or Chinese dishes. So you may already know it tteokbokki. This is a great option for those who like it distant, exotic and slightly spicy climates.

Tteokbokki are small dumplings made of rice dough. They come from Korea and were prepared during the Joseon dynasty, i.e in the 14th century. The first records about the dish appeared in a cookbook from the 19th century. They were prepared in the past with beef, soy sauce and vegetables. They were often enriched with mushrooms and nuts.

Currently, tteokbokki can be found sold as street food (or, in English, street food). So they are sold in Korea at street stalls or snack bars. The noodles are topped with a spicy sauce based on spicy gochujang pasa.

Making tteokbokki noodles is extremely simple. They don’t take much time to prepare at all, and some Koreans can make them in just 5 minutes. They follow this recipe delicate, soft and much better than dumplings. After every bite, they almost melt in your mouth. Be sure to try it for your next dinner if you want to diversify your diet.

Ingredients:

  • 300 g rice flour (glutinous rice),
  • a teaspoon of salt,
  • 240 ml of warm water.

How to do it:

Place all ingredients in a bowl and mix thoroughly. They should join together and form a uniform mass. After a while we move on to kneading the dough with our hands. The dough should be smooth and can’t stick to cancer.

Divide the prepared, kneaded dough into two or three smaller parts. Form each of them into a long, thin cylinder. Cut them off dumplings approx. long 3-4 cm. Boil water with salt in a pot. When it starts to boil, reduce the burner power and add a few dumplings at a time so that they do not stick together.

Tteokbokki cook until it floats to the surface of the water. Remove them using a slotted spoon and transfer to a bowl of cold water. After 30 seconds, take them out onto a plate. Korean tteokbokki noodles serve in your favorite version immediately after preparation.

Tteokbokki can be served in many different ways. The most popular is to dip the noodles in a prepared spicy sauce paste-based gochujang, shallots and soy sauce. You can also serve fresh chopped ones chili peppers and a half-boiled egg.

Plus tteokbokki They taste great when fried in oil. Then they become crispy on the outside and remain soft on the inside. This version of dumplings is served with the sauce resulting from the combination soy sauceo, honey, garlic and sesame oilo. For an even better effect, sprinkle the dish with sesame seeds and chopped spring onion.

We will also serve tteokbokki with seafood or beef and cheese. Among sea delicacies, they fit best here shrimp. Among cheeses, mozzarella, which is chewy when heated, goes well with it. The dumplings can also be used as an addition in various soups and broths.
