On Monday afternoon (20), in Porto Velho (RO), doctor Katiane Guedes Moreira Brandão, director of the Ary Pinheiro Base Hospital (HBAP) in the capital of Rondônia, died. She was a victim of respiratory problems. Married, she left her husband, two children and a legion of friends who greatly mourned her death. She will be buried this Tuesday (21), in Porto Velho.

In a statement, the government of Rondônia expressed deep regret at the death of the renowned doctor, remembering that “she leaves a legacy of commitment and dedication to the work she performed”. According to the note, throughout her career, “Dr. Katiane stood out for her work as a state employee since 2012, and was relevant in several positions; recently as general director of HBAP”.
“In the most critical years of public health, during the period of the Covid-19 pandemic, the doctor proved to be a tireless professional. Between 2020 and 2021, she stood out for her dedication and for creating innovative strategies in the management of urgencies and emergencies. As manager of the state’s Urgency and Emergency Regulation Center (Crue), she played a strategic role in crisis management, with the mission of saving lives in the midst of an unprecedented global pandemic, the note noted.
The doctor was recognized for her humanity, justice and dedication. “It was an example of professionalism and commitment to the Unified Health System (SUS), always ready to help and support everyone who needed it,” said the statement from the Rondônia government.
Graduated from the Federal University of Rondônia (Unir), the doctor had additional training in several areas. She worked as a specialist in Nutrology and Oncological Nutrology, with an interest in palliative care and integrative medicine. She was also a federal public servant at the Regional Labor Court of Rondônia (TRT14), where she held the position of president of the Medical Board. In addition, he carried out autonomous activities in a private clinic, and participated in research at the Federal University of Rondônia, focusing on human exposure to environmental pollutants.
In recent actions, the doctor was present in the renovations and expansions within the Hospital de Base, such as the new surgical center and the urological clinic, in addition to the acquisition of high-tech equipment by the State Department of Health (Sesau). He also actively participated in the expansion of the maternity and obstetric center at HBAP, always looking for improvements in the quality of care for the population.
