The federal government transferred an additional R$32,531,311.09 for school transportation by water vessels in states in northern Brazil. The transfer was made by the Ministry of Education (MEC) and the resources will originate from the National Education Development Fund (FNDE), which finances transport for students in rural areas.
The FNDE will also be responsible for monitoring the use of values.
According to the federal government, the measure aims to “guarantee more equity” in school transport in the northern region of the country.
“With this resource we are serving students from geographically more complex regions, with more difficult access, with many rivers, and who need to go to school by boat” he stated
“We are seeking to ensure quality and safe transport so that young people and children can attend school, especially those in the North region”, he added.
According to the government, the values are calculated based on the school census, and are generally sent in March and August, in two installments.
