Former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro and federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL) were left out of the Rotunda of the United States Capitol, where President Donald Trump’s inauguration was held this Monday, 20. The two were unable to occupy the space reserved for former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and had to attend the ceremony in a basketball and hockey stadium located in the American capital.
According to Eduardo Bolsonaro, in a statement, they were taken to the Capital One Arena where Trump signed the first decrees and spoke to supporters. According to the congressman, the American president’s ceremonial ensured that Bolsonaro would have space in the Rotunda if he came to the United States and that the family’s trip to the stadium occurred for a “protocol issue”.
“Due to the transfer of the ceremony to the Capitol Rotunda, only parliamentarians unaccompanied by their spouses, the Trump family, some ministers, CEOs of strategic companies and closest heads of state were able to participate. All other guests, including the president of Paraguay and presidents of European parties, were directed to the Capital One Arena, the location chosen by Trump to sign his first decrees as president and speak to the public,” said the federal deputy.
Located just over two kilometers from the Capitol, Capital One Arena is a multi-purpose stadium used by the National Basketball Association (NBA) team Washington Wizards and the National Hockey League (NHL) team Washington Capitals. The space, which can house up to 20,300 spectators, is also often used for political and entertainment events.
