NATO, the Western military alliance, will “turbocharge” spending and the production of defense assets with the return of Donald Trump to the Presidency of the United States, said the group’s secretary general, Mark Rutte, this Monday (20 ).
This comment comes amid uncertainty about Trump’s commitment to the alliance.
The Republican previously said he would encourage Russia to do “whatever the hell they want” to any NATO member country that fails to meet spending guidelines and would not offer U.S. protection to that nation.
Rutte did not address Trump’s comments. Instead, he offered an optimistic vision of the future, highlighting: “Together, we can achieve peace through strength — through NATO!”
