New website wants to help Portuguese people save on energy bills

Energy-Social Portal offers simulators and information for consumers, with the aim of reducing energy poverty. And it seems useful: half of Lisbon residents are cold.

The new digital portal was created by ENTREAJUDA, an organization focused on social innovation.

The objective, he explains to Isabel Jonet, president of the association, is to provide “guidance on good practices for reduce energy costs“.

In addition to several informative articles about energy poverty in Portugal, the initiative also leaves a large set of tips that can help consumers save on their energy bills.

From the most common tips to some less obvious ones, such as “walls, ceilings and floors of Light colors favor light reflectionreducing the need for artificial lighting”, there are dozens of suggested ways to save.

Even tips are left for the kitchen, for example, “when using the stove, ensure that the bottom of the containers is a little larger than the gas burner, so that make the most of the heator “use pressure cookers whenever possible. They save energy and a lot of time.”

3 from other energy-related companies are also provided, to help consumers choose the most profitable tariff, taking into account factors such as the number of people in the household.

“The project aims to promote an impactful pact between several partners, such as energy companies and various entities such as the (Entidade Reguladora dos Serviços Energéticos) and (Agência para a Energia) which already have a lot of content, but which are very dispersed”, he explains. to Renaissance the president.

The objective is, therefore, to “combat energy waste” and provide support to families.

In a study released this Tuesday, it was concluded that more than half of Lisbon residents sometimes feel thermal discomfort at home, both in summer and winter, reports the Lusa agency.

In the survey, carried out by Lisboa E-Nova — Lisbon Energy and Environment Agency, 63.2% of respondents reported feeling, at times, thermal discomfort inside your homes in winter and 56.5% in summer.

Around a quarter of the participants declared that they often felt this discomfort, in both seasons, according to a statement that summarizes the main results of the survey of the population residing in Lisbon aged 25 or over, conducted at three different times (summer 2022 and 2023 and winter 2023).

Participants in difficult or very difficult financial situations reported more frequently feeling too cold or hot at home, with more than a fifth (22.0%) reporting not having the financial capacity to keep their home at a comfortable temperature during the winter months, a figure higher than that of Eurostat for Portugal (20.8% in 2023).

ENTREAJUDA is therefore trying to support consumers so that they can more efficiently manage the energy they can spend, to optimize this situation of energy poverty, which exists in thousands of Portuguese homes.

Did you know that, for example, “all equipment in standby mode can reach 10% of the total electrical energy consumption of a house”or that “even when turned off by the remote control, a device continues to use up to around 25% of energy, representing a avoidable annual cost of more than 120 euros“?

The portal’s tip: “do not leave devices in standby and do not leave chargers plugged in”.
