National president of , the senator (PI) says that the demand made by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to the parties that are part of the government, to support his re-election in 2026, does not apply to the party. This despite the fact that the Minister of Sports, André Fufuca, is affiliated with the party.
“For us this has no effect. We do not participate in nominations, there is nothing partisan”, he says.
According to him, Fufuca’s presence at the top is an individual decision by the minister, without party support. “The vast majority of the party continues to want to be in the opposition”, says the party’s president.
The same scenario will repeat itself, says Nogueira, if another party member is included in the imminent ministerial reform.
“Arthur knows I’m against [ele ir para o ministério]. This government will not change by carrying out a little reform. This government has to turn the key, instead of just looking back”, declares Nogueira, who was minister under Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
Recently, the senator said that he was adopting a more centrist stance on the political spectrum, which generated speculation about a possible rapprochement with Lula, whom he has supported in the past.
Nogueira denies the possibility. “I will only meet President Lula on the day he leaves the palace.”
