Argentines represent 22% of tourists who visited the beaches in the first two weeks of 2025, according to a study by Fecomércio (Federation of Commerce in Goods, Services and Tourism) in the state.
The research shows that the number of Argentine visitors has more than doubled compared to the same period in 2024, when they were 10%.
In relation to the total number of foreigners, tourists from Brazil account for 81%. The other 19% are occupied by travelers from Uruguay, Chile, Paraguay, Portugal and the United States.
The increase in the number of Argentines in Santa Catarina occurs amid the devaluation of the real throughout 2024. Brazil has received more Argentine tourists, due to the artificial appreciation of the peso, the local currency.
Fecomércio SC also detected an increase in average spending by foreign tourists. This season, the increase is 37% compared to the same period in 2024, jumping from R$8,416 to R$11,532.
“The Argentines came back with everything. This season is reminiscent of the 1990s, when there was parity between the peso and the dollar, which meant that they had great purchasing power and filled our coast every year”, says the president from Fecomércio Santa Catarina, Hélio Dagnoni.
