WASHINGTON, USA (FOLHAPRESS) – Steve Bannon, Donald Trump’s former strategist and one of the main exponents of the far right, told Folha de S.Paulo on Sunday (19) that he will ask the next Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, to take attitudes against Brazil due to the absence of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in the Republican’s inauguration.

Bannon organized an event over the weekend for right-wing representatives around the world and had Bolsonaro as a special guest. In place of the former president, Brazilian deputies attended, including Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP).

Bannon defends the former president’s return to power and calls minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), corrupt.

“I do not speak for President Trump, but the people in the Maga movement [sigla em inglês para o principal slogan de Trump “faça a América grandiosa novamente”] They love Bolsonaro. Our recommendation is that there should be severe sanctions against Brazil and particularly against this judge [Moraes] to not have any access to the United States,” he said.

“I’m going to talk to Senator Marco Rubio, I’m very close to him, when he takes office tomorrow [nesta segunda]and say: we need to take action on this”, he stated.

Bannon was one of Trump’s main allies. He was imprisoned for four months, from July to October last year, serving time after refusing to hand over documents and testify before a House committee investigating the invasion of the Capitol by Trump supporters on January 6, 2021.
