The governor of São Paulo, (Republicans), and state secretaries celebrated on social media this Monday (20) his becoming president of the USA. The posts were approved by followers, but they also aroused criticism, both on the left and on the right.
Tarcísio made three posts about the subject on Instagram, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter) and Threads since Sunday (19).
In the most recent one, putting on a cap with the Trumpist slogan “make America great again” and saying “great day”, an expression that became a meme after being used by the former president () to celebrate victories over opponents.
On Sunday, in a countdown to the inauguration, the governor and Bolsonaro’s ally posted the caption: “The time is coming! New winds that point to progress, prosperity and freedom. Everyone paying attention to what’s to come?”
The secretaries (Civil House), (Economic Development) and (Policies for Women) also spoke, with their own content and replicated from the governor.
The head of the Civil House stated that it was “a day to celebrate freedom” and said that, with Trump’s return, “the right is strengthened, bringing hope and renewal to people and the world”.
Lima also wrote that the moment “reaffirms the power of sovereignty, the commitment to conservative values and the unwavering defense of freedom”, speaking in the expectation that “this new cycle will inspire prosperity, security and determination in all nations”.

The president of the Union of Subway Workers, Camila Lisboa, who called one of Tarcísio’s posts pathetic and said that Trump wants to protect the North American economy and harm that of other countries.
“Unlike what Governor Tarcísio says, unfortunately the new Trump administration is not bringing hope, progress or prosperity, it is bringing a wave of fear, terror and uncertainty,” Camila said in a video.
Tarcísio is named as , since Bolsonaro is ineligible, but says today that his plan is to seek re-election in the state. Although he opposes (), he maintains bridges with the federal government and responds to criticism.
