The Municipal Secretary of Urban Security of the city of São Paulo, Orlando Morando, said he was against the use of body cameras by agents of the Metropolitan Civil Guard (GCM) in the capital of São Paulo, this Tuesday (21).
“There is no lethality that justifies body cameras,” he said in a conversation with journalists after the graduation of 500 new GCM agents.
“I consider it an unnecessary controversy”, he added.
At the end of last year, the Federal Supreme Court by state military police officers who work in the capital of São Paulo.
The determination came in the middle of one in São Paulo.
When asked about this issue, Morando said that the Supreme Court made it “clear” that the determination is only for military police officers and does not involve agents from other spheres.
According to him, it is not the GCM “that proved to be highly lethal”.
This is not the first time that Morando has spoken out against the use of the equipment.
Earlier, this Tuesday (21), the Special Action Group for Public Security and External Control of Police Activity (GAESP) issued a letter, asking the secretary to clarify, to the Public Ministry of São Paulo, the content of the statements made previously on the topic.
