The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated this Monday (20) that Brazil and Latin America “need the USA more than the USA needs them”. The statement was made during the signing of the first decrees of the new term, in the Oval Office of the White House.
“The relationship is excellent. They need us, much more than we need them. Everyone needs us,” said Trump, in response to a question from TV Globo about his expectations for the relationship with Brazil and Latin America, as well as possible contact with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
Earlier, highlighting that, regardless of the differences, he hopes that the Republican’s administration will bring benefits to both the United States and Brazil.
“There are people who say that Trump’s election could cause problems in global democracy. Trump was elected to govern the USA and I, as president of Brazil, hope that he will manage fruitfully so that the American people improve and so that Americans continue to be historic in what is Brazil,” said Lula.
Lula emphasized that his government does not seek conflicts with the United States, nor with other countries, including Venezuela, China, India or Russia. “For our part, we don’t want a fight,” said the Brazilian president.
