A video published by the former governor suggesting films for his followers to watch over the weekend generated repercussions on social media and even a note of rejection.
In the recording shared on Friday (17), he appears wearing sunglasses, in a swimming pool with Sugarloaf Mountain in the background, in a relaxed appearance, typical of digital influencers.
The NGO Transparência Internacional Brasil reproduced Cabral’s publication and stated that the video “will become a symbol of Brazilian impunity for the world”.
Judge Marcelo Bretas, responsible for most of the former governor’s convictions and who is now provisionally removed from his position, commented on the entity’s post and wrote: “Yes…”.
“For this weekend, I have three tips for you,” Cabral said in the video, citing “films that have moved me a lot throughout my life.”
The films mentioned are “Blade Runner” (1982), “Cinema Paradiso” (1988) and “They Don’t Wear a Black Tie” (1981).
When contacted, the former governor’s office did not comment on the public repercussion of the video.
Transparency International said that the former governor “laughs in the face of Justice and the Brazilian people” by boasting “what the State was unable to recover from what it stole.”
“Sergio Cabral’s crimes caused deaths, immense human suffering, delay and poverty. 101 million dollars were recovered in accounts abroad, almost a billion reais from Rio de Janeiro diverted into his pocket”, stated the NGO, focused on combat to in the world.
