You can grow tangerines in your apartment. One seed is enough to make your mother-in-law green with envy

Did you know that you can grow tangerines yourself in your apartment? It is an interesting potted plant, or rather a small tree, which delights with beautiful flowers and emits a wonderful citrus scent.

Its fruits usually appear after a few years and are fully edible, although they taste slightly different from those from the store (more sour). Check how to grow tangerines in a pot so that you can quickly enjoy its beauty and abundant harvests.

A potted tangerine can grow to about 1.5 meters in height (in the natural environment, these trees reach up to 8 meters). The plant has characteristic, branched shoots and oval, dark green leaves.

Its flowers, gathered in bunches on the shoots, are white or pale pink and can be admired even 2-3 times a year. They have an intense, wonderful scent. It is worth taking the plant outside in the summer so that insects can pollinate it. Then the mandarin will fruit more abundantly.

You can grow tangerines from seedlings or from a seed. The first method is recommended for beginners, also because such trees bear fruit faster. The second method, however, is cheaper and more satisfying because you can watch the plant develop with your own eyes.

The seed should be as fresh as possible. Cut it gently so that it absorbs water better and germinates faster. It should sprout in about 4-5 weeks. However, do not delude yourself that you will see fruits on the plant during the first years. It is even recommended to get rid of their buds for about 2-3 years, so as not to weaken the tiny seedling with heavy tangerines.

Place the tangerine seed in a small hole in a fairly large pot filled with peat and sand. (the larger it is, the less often it needs to be replanted) mixed in equal proportions 1:1. The soil reaction should be slightly acidic.

Remember that when growing this plant, it is crucial to keep the soil slightly moist at all times. Give them separated water. Therefore, it needs to be watered regularly with a small amount of water. Also try to fertilize them regularly with citrus nutrients.

During the growing season, they need to be provided with a temperature of about 22-28 degrees Celsius, in winter about 13-15 (it should be gradually reduced). In the summer, you can easily put them on the balcony or terrace. The position must be as sunny as possible, e.g. a windowsill facing south-west.
